As a lifelong writer, singer/songwriter and artist, Jennifer is no stranger to the ins and outs of creativity. What wasn’t expected however, was the illness that threatened to end her music for good. Many years later, mostly recovered and now with a growing family, Jenn set out to reclaim everything that was lost from her ordeal. You see, she had never stopped creating, but a deep fear had set in. Too much time had passed, and it was difficult to let go of what the world wants to hear, and simply just make the music that our hearts long for. This small Christmas offering is the culmination of that reclamation journey. The first of many more projects to come.
As a busy family with five kids, we’re always searching for a way to bond and connect, and our creativity has always been a major catalyst. So when Mama Jenn wrote a Christmas song in a mad fit of inspiration one fall day, “Christmas Is Calling” was born. It was originally conceived as a grade school choir song, but as the ideas came in a rush, she found a way to bring the song to life through the voices of her own children. Some of them were more willing than others, but little by little she captured the recordings that were eventually featured on the title song. It may or may not have involved a few lively games of “sneak tickle attack while mom records me giggling”!
“Immortal Invisible” is a beloved hymn that rarely gets the attention it deserves. It’s rich literary imagery speaks of a deep love and reverence and personal relationship with The One and Great Creator Himself, Yahweh. The song first came on Jenn’s radar when she and friends Gavin Coffin and Dan Cramer came together to participate in a concert benefitting an outreach ministry. As they were searching for songs that fit, Gavin suggested the old hymn. As soon as they heard his arrangement, it instantly became a favorite song that the three would perform together. Although they weren’t able to record it together for this project, Jenn tried to capture the same feel as the original. They hope to be able to collaborate on upcoming music!
Let’s be honest, “Jingle Bells” was just an excuse to record a bunch of cute kids being themselves and sharing their excitement for the upcoming season. You can’t help but giggle yourself as The Werth kids (even the baby!) jumble the words and dissolve into joyous squeals of delight at the end.
